I am Alice

Found this fun distraction on Postcards from the Mothership.

You're Alice's Adventures in Wonderland!

by Lewis Carroll

After stumbling down the wrong turn in life, you've had your mind
opened to a number of strange and curious things. As life grows curiouser and curiouser, you have to ask yourself what's real and what's the picture of illusion. Little is coming to your aid in discerning fantasy from fact, but the line between them is so blurry that it's starting not to matter. Be careful around rabbit holes and those who smile to much, and just avoid hat shops altogether.

Funny thing is, I have actually never read this book. But, I sure want to now. The description was right on.

Once, an Irish musical

I was talking to some coworkers the other day about movies. Movies we have seen, movies we want to see, movies coming out soon, etc. One of them said the movie he really wanted to see was called Once. When asked, he described it as an Irish musical. Now no offense to musicals everywhere, but this word does not have the great run out and see it kind of affect on me. I wouldn't say I think negatively of musicals in general. I really just don't think of them at all. But, after hearing some rave reviews, I did see the Irish musical. And I am speechless. I really cannot convey to you how wonderful this movie is. And the music. Amazing. Hopeful. Beautiful. Calming. Real.

That's what she said.

Me: I don't know what to get my Mom for her birthday.
Him: Get her a big hug.
Me: I usually ask for hints. But, I may seem like a slacker if I asked now, it being this weekend and all.
Him: You are a slacker. First Joshua's birthday, now your Mom.
Me: Whatever. I don't know why we are arguing. I am usually really good.
Him: That's what she said.

(I think Michael Scott may be rubbing off on him.)

Trying not to be jealous.

I am not an interior designer

I began remodeling my bedroom about 2 months ago. And I am still not done. This remodeling stuff is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I was hoping to have everything moved in to my bedroom by now and to be working on the next room. But, I am struggling. One problem right now being storage, which I know will be an ongoing dilemma throughout my condo remodel. This small condo doesn't have any. So, for the bedroom, I bought two tall wardrobes from IKEA (one of my fav remodel resources). I really liked the way they looked and thought they would go well with the rest of my bedroom furniture/accessories. But, the placement is very tricky. And I am starting to question my purchase as I am not sure if their shape really fits in the room. They came as a design-it-yourself package so I do not believe returning is an option. I am stuck with them and I need to make them work.

Option A (with side table?):

Option B (without side table?):

I am leaving both options up for a few days in hopes that one will grow on me.

This should be required viewing

All beginning typography classes should show this flash animation. Made by students Ryan Uhrich and Marcos Ceravolo. (via Debbie Millman).

I learned by a couple of books. One being The Elements of Typographic Style, which I still reference today. But, I like how their animation is more interactive. Also, bravo to them. I never made anything that nice in design school.
